About me

I am a cisgender woman with 16 years of experience working in the fields of mental health, addiction, family and sexual violence, and psychological trauma. My background includes extensive experience in healthcare and community-based services, including child and adolescent behavioural health, Kaupapa Māori mental health and addictions, domestic violence and sexual harm. I have supported individuals, couples and families with relationship difficulties, parenting issues, attachment issues, grief and loss, women’s issues (including prenatal, perinatal, postpartum, infertility, miscarriage and termination of pregnancy), depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, substance use disorders, gambling problems, intimate partner violence, sexual abuse and sexual assault.
Based in Hastings, I have been in private practice for seven years. Previously, I provided therapy and mental injury assessment to survivors of sexual abuse and assault through ACC’s Integrated Service for Sensitive Claims (ISSC). I provided EAP counselling through Vitae and Telus Health (NZ). I delivered psychological intervention to primary healthcare patients with mild-to-moderate mental illness (by GP referral). I also supervised professionals practicing in the fields of counselling, addictions, law, medicine and social work.
Currently, I am a Supplier (Contract Holder) for ACC Sensitive Claims. Through the Sensitive Claims Service, my team and I provide fully funded support, treatment and assessment to survivors of sexual abuse or assault.

Accepting new providers
I am accepting new providers onto my contract from 3 February 2025 on a case-by-case basis, depending on our service needs. If you are a registered counsellor, psychotherapist, clinical psychologist, psychiatrist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, dietician, speech language therapist, nurse or cultural advisor looking to provide services for ACC Sensitive Claims, please contact me on 021305532 or annareeves.counselling@gmail.com
Services I provide: Specialist Cover Assessments
I’m no longer taking new ACC Sensitive Claims clients myself, but I can complete Specialist Cover Assessments where required. A Specialist Cover Assessment in the Sensitive Claims Service is a formal clinical evaluation used to determine whether a person meets the criteria for ACC cover for mental injury resulting from sexual abuse or assault. I provide a clinical opinion on whether the mental injury is causally linked to the Schedule 3 event(s), which is essential for confirming cover eligibility.
I have extensive experience completing Specialist Cover Assessments, including where significant vulnerabilities and risk factors are present. Many of the people I work with are experiencing problems with transience, institutionalisation, family violence, emotional dysregulation, addiction, depression, PTSD, volatility, deliberate self-injury, suicidality, homocidality, and ongoing risk of sexual harm.
I specialise in assessing female survivors of intimate partner abuse and gendered violence. I also specialise in assessing male survivors of sexual violence, people with extensive histories of criminal, aggressive and/or sexually harmful behaviour, and substance use disorders. I have a special interest in the expression of Complex PTSD, dissociative disorders and personality disorders in incarcerated populations.
I am available to assess inmates at Hawkes Bay Regional Prison and other Corrections facilities throughout the county.
You can contact me on 021305532 or annareeves.counselling@gmail.com to request a Specialist Cover Assessment.

“Whenever people are abused, they do many things to oppose the abuse and to keep their dignity and their self-respect. This is called resistance. The resistance might include not doing what the perpetrator wants them to do, standing up against, and trying to stop or prevent violence, disrespect, or oppression. Imagining a better life may also be a way that victims resist abuse. Many people believe victims passively accept violence, and lack self-esteem, assertiveness, or boundaries. Unfortunately, this leads people to have an incorrect, stereotyped, negative view of victims.” – Calgary Women’s Shelter
